Ebb & Flow community workshops
The Rubibi/Broome Ebb & Flow theme was inspired by the beauty and uniqueness of our natural environment. Rubibi/Broome is home of some of the most dramatic tides in the world. Characterised by iconic turquoise water edged by strips of creamy white beaches contrasted with red pindan dirt and green mangroves or bushlands, our home is the perfect Ebb & Flow canvas. These workshops were ethical, sustainable, 100% waste-free, including a ‘cleaning up’ local litter aspect. This creativity is easily replicable; an accomplished artist, expensive materials or equipment is not necessary to continue beyond the session. Participants leave workshops with knowledge and experience to continue the practice and share with others, should they desire.
School community workshops
Over 4 afternoons, students played with patterns in nature to create unique artworks and express themselves. Inspired by the artworks of environmental artists such as Andy Goldsworthy, children experimented with a range of natural materials such as shells, rocks, sand, leaves and nuts. The children collected some of their own materials from their local environment to incorporate in their individual and collaborative designs that were photographed before being deconstructed and re-sorted for re-purposing again. The children loved the exhibition held at the end of each session, where works were displayed with the opportunity to provide feedback on what they liked about one another’s compositions. Polaroid photographs of the student artworks were given out to take home to share with families. Students loved to create their ‘dinner plate’ compositions and proudly showed them off to everyone.
